NEW WILMINGTON Pa.—The Marjorie A. Walker Recreation Center in Old 77 is receiving a facelift, which includes a new fitness center in the current dance studio. The change provides an alternative place for students to choose to work on campus.
While the physical fitness center located in the Memorial Field House being primarily used by athletes until roughly 1:30 p.m., Athletic Director Jason Lener says that they wanted to provide a separate place for the general student body to use.
“We wanted to make sure that we had another space that was available, and I am super excited about it,” says Lener, “There is a bunch of brand-new equipment coming in and it is going to be very nice. So, we will be able to have two locations on campus.”
The new fitness center will have rubber flooring, new racks, dumbbells, benches as well as nautilus machines. All the contents and the look will be similar to the fitness center in the fieldhouse. The current cardio room to the left of the dance studio will remain that way and the current room with the machines will have medicine balls and yoga mats instead.
The Athletic Department, Student affairs/campus life and the Wellness Center all collaborated on this project with the cost for the project being covered by a donor. The renovations to the Marjorie A. Walker Recreation Center will be finished soon and students will get to enjoy a new location with brand new facilities to work out on campus.
