OpenAI’s Potential Browser Could Challenge Google Chrome Amid Antitrust Scrutiny

Backed by Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), OpenAI is looking to create a web browser to rival Google Chrome, The Information reports.

The AI company is considering putting its ChatGPT technology into the browser after talking about the idea with app and website builders. The effort may provide a threat to Google (GOOG, GOOGL), whose Chrome browser has long dominated the search and surfing scene.

OpenAI is also allegedly looking at how to use its AI capabilities on Samsung, a Google partner, produced devices. OpenAI signed a cooperation agreement with Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) earlier this year, broadening its AI ecosystem. OpenAI has hired two former Google engineers engaged in Chrome development, generating rumors about its intentions even though a launch date is unknown.

Google is also under legal fire since the U.S. Department of Justice is investigating a case to force the behemoth to sell its Chrome browser, alleging monopolistic behavior. April 2025 is set aside for a trial when Google’s browser business’s future would be in line for change.
