Frisco-based Maverick Fitness Holdings, which operates 33 Orangetheory Fitness studios in North Texas, hosted a special 90-minute class in July exclusively for Special Olympics athletes.
The event raised over $54,000 for the Special Olympics. This initiative, which began in 2020 to help keep Special Olympics athletes in North Texas active during the pandemic, has since evolved into a broader inclusion movement. Now, Orangetheory Fitness studios across Texas welcome Special Olympics athletes as honorary members for the day.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Special Olympics Texas this summer,” said Maverick Fitness Holdings CEO Shane Adams in an official statement. “The participation of local athletes in our studios during the donation weekend enriches the meaning of this event. It underscores our commitment to promoting health, wellness and community inclusion.”
Since early 2020, Orangetheory Fitness has strengthened its partnership with Special Olympics Texas and its athletes. Initially, Orangetheory employees engaged with their local community by volunteering at various events. However, during the pandemic, this involvement evolved into a vital effort to keep Special Olympics athletes across the state connected through social activities and focused on health and wellness during a challenging period for all.
In 2021, with the return of in-person classes, Orangetheory expanded its partnership with Special Olympics Texas by increasing its support for the athletes and involving Orangetheory members throughout North Texas.
“This initiative exemplifies our dedication to these core values, and we extend our sincere thanks to our dedicated members and staff whose involvement guarantees the success of this endeavor,” Adams said. “We are particularly proud of the funds raised through the unwavering support of our local community.”
Maverick Fitness is committed to giving back to the communities they serve. In 2018, they launched OrangeLove, a nonprofit initiative that selects a different charity each month to receive a cash donation. Orangetheory Fitness members are encouraged to check in on social media at the end of each class, tagging the featured charity. Maverick Fitness then contributes up to $5,000 to that charity.
Additionally, the Maverick Fitness Executive office participates in quarterly days of service, partnering with local nonprofits such as Tarrant Area Food Bank, Minnie’s Food Pantry and Cornerstone Ranch, among others.
