Orlando Science Center launches into Guinness World Records with ‘massive’ paper rockets launch

ORLANDO, Fla. – SpaceX isn’t the only one breaking launch records in Central Florida. On Saturday, the Orlando Science Center set a Guinness World Record with the most people simultaneously flying paper rockets.

According to a news release, 300 people help set the “massive launch” record inside of the Dr. Phillips CineDome.

“For the purposes of the record, a paper rocket was defined as a toy made entirely of paper that fits onto a straw, and when the straw is blown through, the rocket flies into the air,” the release read in part.

Each participant was equipped with one paper rocket and the judge allowed three attempts for a successful flight. Participants had to fly their paper rockets within 15 seconds of the launch signal.

“A flight was considered successful when, because of the air pushing the rocket, the paper rocket flew upwards or horizontally. Only successful flights were counted,” the release stated.

Orlando Science Center officials said that a judge from Guinness World Records was onsite to verify and confirm the record.

The Orlando Science Center received an official certificate documenting their world record title, which will also be noted in the 2025 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records, according to the release.

Officials said the world record was made in conjunction with the Science of Guinness World Records exhibition currently on display until Jan. 6, 2025.
