Outdoor fashion lands Washington men on national best style list

The fashion style of Washington men, dubbed ‘Pacific Northwest Casual,’ has been voted the 11th most stylish in the country.

This laid-back trend, characterized by flannel shirts, rain jackets, and hiking boots, reflects Washington’s affinity for the outdoors while hinting at an environmentally conscious and adventurous spirit that a DatingAdvice poll of 3,000 single women indicated as favorable.

Other strong showers were, ‘Classic Americana’ in Pennsylvania (second place) and Oklahoma’s ‘Cowboy Classic’ (third place).

New Jersey’s ‘Urban Edge’ style was ranked as the most desirable in the nation. “This effortless blend of street style and urban chic held the most appeal with its fitted jeans, designer sneakers, and leather jackets,” according to DatingAdvice.

The poll also identified fashion fails. Leading the list of questionable choices, socks with sandals were deemed intolerable by over a third of respondents, and head-to-toe camouflage was cited as a deal-breaker on first dates by 32% of those polled.

“Men’s fashion is a bit of a minefield,” says Amber Brooks, senior editor at DatingAdvice.com. “There are many unspoken rules about what women find attractive.”

Here is how respondents from other western states preferred men to dress:

  • Oregon women also prefer men in Washington’s Pacific Northwest Casual attire.
  • Idaho women prefer men in Colorado’s Mountain Modern attire.
  • California and Arizona women prefer men in Delaware’s Coastal Casual attire.
  • Nevada women prefer men in Illinois’ Urban Tailored attire.
  • Montana women prefer men in Alabama’s Southern Classic attire.
