Over the limit: 1 arrested after drunken shooting in parking lot of KC business
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – One man is behind bars after he allegedly shot more than a dozen bullets at a Kansas City business with customers and employees still inside.
Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Sunday, Dec. 29, indicate that Daniel Luciano, 21, of Independence, has been charged in connection to a shooting at a Kansas City business.
A probable cause statement filed by the Kansas City Police Department revealed that around 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, law enforcement officials heard gunshots fired in the parking lot of a nearby business.
Investigators noted that witnesses pointed them toward a white Jeep as the driver attempted to speed off, however, they became stuck on a fence they attempted to drive through. The driver was later identified as Luciano. He was eventually able to free the Jeep and sped away.
KCPD indicated that more than a dozen spent bullets were found in the business’ parking lot. Four customers and two employees had been inside the business at the time of the shooting with more customers parked outside.
Employees told investigators that Luciano is a frequent customer and that he became upset with how long the customer in front of him took to checkout. When he flashed his firearm, he was asked to leave. Luciano complied before gunshots were heard in the parking lot. Bullet fragments were also found inside the business.
Law enforcement indicated that no one was injured during the shooting.
A short time after the shooting, law enforcement officials said they found the Jeep at a nearby residence. During a search of the vehicle, a firearm and ammunition that matched bullets found at the scene were discovered.
During the search, investigators also said Luciano appeared to be intoxicated and a sobriety test was conducted. He allegedly blew a .198 in the breathalyzer. The probable cause statement read, “…breathalyzer test results which [are] approximately twenty-four (24) times the legal limit.”
Luciano was taken into custody and charged with assault, driving while intoxicated, unlawful discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon. If convicted he could face up to 12 years in prison and a $41,000 fine.
As of Wednesday, Jan. 1, Luciano remains behind bars on an $80,000 bond. A bond review hearing has been scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, with a preliminary hearing expected at 2 p.m. on Jan. 29. No further information has been released.
Law enforcement officials have not released the name of the business the shooting took place at.
