Owensboro Family Pharmacy announces closure after nearly 40 years in business

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) – On Thursday, a family-owned and operated pharmacy in Owensboro announced they are closing their doors.

The owners of Owensboro Family Pharmacy and Wellness took to Facebook to announce the news.

They say after 39 years of serving their community, their last day open will be Thursday, August 8.

The business first opened in 1985 when a member of the family decided to make a difference and open an independent pharmacy.

In the social media post, owners listed multiple factors that ultimately led up to the closing saying:

“Due to the mounting impact of escalating fees imposed by Pharmacy Benefit Managers, and Insurance companies, recent changes in the healthcare environment, our ongoing struggle to remain financially viable, the depletion of our personal savings, and the heartbreaking closure of many of our fellow independent pharmacies, it is with great sadness that we announce the end of our battle to stay afloat to serve our community.”
