Panthers hold out another key defensive starter from Thursday’s practice

The porous Carolina Panthers run defense is going to need all the help they can get on Sunday, especially while facing Offensive Player of the Year frontrunner Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles. So Thursday’s injury report, after a near-perfect attendance record on Wednesday, is a bit concerning.

Today’s session did not include starting inside linebacker Josey Jewell, who was listed as a non-participant due to a hamstring injury. Jewell has recorded 71 total tackles (second-most on the team), 2.0 sacks and an interception in nine games this season.

Carolina was also without outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney (knee). Clowney, the team leader in sacks, also missed yesterday’s outing.
