Panthers legend Greg Olsen wins second Sports Emmy, named top event analyst

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A Carolina Panthers legend is continuing to garner accolades off the field, years after his retirement from football.

Greg Olsen, who spent the past three seasons calling games for FOX Sports, including the past two as the network’s top commentator, won another Sports Emmy, this time being recognized as the top event analyst.

The former Panther was among six nominees for the award, joined by Troy Aikman, Cris Collinsworth, Bill Raferty, John Smoltz and Tom Verducci.

Last year, Olsen won an Emmy for the top emerging on-air talent, besting the likes of Eli Manning, Robert Griffin III and others.

Since his retirement following the 2020 NFL season, Olsen has become a fan favorite in the broadcast booth. Despite that, and his awards, FOX Sports inked a deal with Tom Brady to become its top football commentator. Brady is set to take over the role during the upcoming season.

Reports have indicated that Olsen will be paired with Joe Davis to form FOX Sports’ No. 2 announcing team.

During his time in Carolina, Olsen became the first tight end in NFL history to record three consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards, doing so between 2014-16. His 6,463 yards rank third in franchise history, and his 39 touchdowns rank fourth.
