Parents outraged over Target’s new shopping cart ‘redesign’: ‘Didn’t consult a single mother’

A mom has sparked a debate among parents after she fiercely slammed Target’s new shopping cart ‘redesign.’

Ashley Darling, an influencer from Arizona, posted a scathing review of the popular department store’s new shopping carts to her TikTok account on Tuesday.

The social media star said the chain must not have consulted a single parent while creating the new look for its shopping carts, and branded it as impractical.

She said the placement of the cupholder made it too easy for her toddler to grab her iced coffee.

She also claimed a tray with small holes in it was a ‘lawsuit’ waiting to happen because it’s the ‘perfect size’ for youngsters to stick their fingers in.

But her take on the new carts launched a massive argument in the comments section, as some echoed her sentiments, while others disagreed.

‘There is a redesign on Target carts. I haven’t seen anybody talk about it yet because it’s brand new, they literally just rolled these carts out,’ Ashley said in the clip, which has now been viewed more than 417,000 times.

‘But you can definitely tell that they did not consult one single mother while redesigning these carts. Let me show you.’

Ashley then turned her camera to show off the new shopping carts; most notable was its updated children’s seat in the front, which contained a built-in cupholder and a small tray.

‘First of all, I do like the bucket seat, but I think pretty much anyone can tell you that we don’t want the cup holders up here. We really don’t,’ she continued.

‘Because guess who’s gonna be pulling on the straw and trying to drink my ice coffee? This one,’ she added as she showed her daughter.

‘And you see these little holes [in the tray]? They’re the perfect size for toddlers to get their fingers stuck.

‘I can guarantee it’s only a matter of time before there’s some sort of lawsuit.’

As an alternative, Ashley recommended that Target move the cupholders to the back area, out of reach of kids.

‘Target, move the cupholders here. We will love you for that,’ she concluded.

Immediately, people flocked to the comment section to share their thoughts on the changes.

Some social media users claimed that they preferred the new design to the old Target carts.

‘I actually kind of like the cupholder there – my son can put his cup there himself, so it’s not getting dropped in the store.’ one mom replied.

‘I DO want the cup holder there and not in my cart where I put all my things,’ another added.

Someone else commented: ‘Love the cup holder up there. Teaching moment for your child to learn not to grab. Or to ask.’

‘I like the cup holder near me.. don’t always have a kid,’ another user added.

However, other people on the web were quick to criticize the new design.

One user said: ‘No but really! I noticed this the other day, I have big babies and they don’t fit! My youngest is one and it’s too small for her! It’s insane.’

Another person wrote: ‘They need two cup holders. One for my kids sippy cup or snack cup at the front. One for my Starbucks safely out of reach.’

‘I just want two seats per cart so I don’t have to push around that mega cart,’ someone else added.

A fourth commented: ‘I’ve seen them and I hate them. I hope mine don’t get them.’
