Parents preparing to raise new generation in a world of growing artificial intelligence

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – We are welcoming Generation Beta into the world this year.

They will grow up in a world much different than the generations before, with artificial intelligence growing more and more common in everyday life.

Hai Duong birthed Kate Duong, Flowers Hospital’s first baby of 2025.

Kate is a part of Gen Beta – the new generation of people born between 2025 and 2039.

Unlike her millennial mom, she will grow up in a world booming with A.I.

It is a concept mothers like Josie Shepard will be forced to think about when raising children.

“I had to work 50 math problems to try to learn a concept and now it would be so easy just to put it in (Chat GPT) to explain and not use your brain at all,” explained Shepard.

She admits using technology to solve math or real-world problems may not be best in every situation.

“It’s going to be a challenge to parent a child into understanding the importance of still using their brain and not completely relying on technology to do all their thinking for them,” said Shepard.

Dr. Nola Ernest of Enterprise Pediatric Clinic has suggestions for worrisome Gen Beta parents.

“Come up with a media plan for your family,” said Ernest. “We want to make sure that children have plenty of opportunities to develop other coping strategies.”

A media plan is something that surely was not at the top of the parenting list for Baby Boomers.

The moral of the story — Gen Beta will experience an entirely new world with A.I. advancements, but parents need not fret because as with every generation people learn to adapt to the new normal.
