Pennsylvania’s run ends in Little League World Series after 3-1 loss

Evan Taveras struck out 12 Pennsylvania batters in five and two-thirds innings, and Hawaii made two runs in the first inning stand up for a 3-1 Little League World Series victory on Tuesday.

That loss eliminated Council Rock Newtown from the tournament. The Bucks County team, representing the Mid-Atlantic Region, lost its first game then won the next two before going out in a nail-biter on Wednesday afternoon.

Kanon Nakama relieved in the sixth inning and after allowing a hit and a walk to put the tying runs on base, struck out the next batter to clinch the win at Lamade Stadium in South Williamsport.

Hawaii finished with just six hits. Nakama knocked in one of the first-inning runs with a sacrifice fly.

The winners added a run in the bottom of the fifth, then had to hold on as Pennsylvania rallied in its final at-bat.

Will Seveter knocked in Pennsylvania’s lone run.

Brayden Peiffer pitched well for Council Rock Newtown, allowing just six hits and three runs, two of them earned. He pitched into the fifth and then was relieved by Tyler Wexler.

Hawaii, 3-1 in the series, will play next on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the winner of the Tuesday night game between Florida and New York.
