Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport reports record-breaking summer travel

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport has reported record-breaking summer travel, with 2024 marking the busiest May to August period ever.

In all, 593,231 passengers came through the airport during this time period, a nine-percent increase over the previous summer season record set in 2022.

“This summer, travelers have had more options than ever to visit Arizona or escape the heat to one of the 45 nonstop destinations available at Gateway Airport,” said J. Brian O’Neill, the airport director.

In February, Gateway opened a new 30,000-square-foot, five-gate terminal addition that added additional gates, expanded holding areas, new retail space, and additional outdoor dining and seating opportunities.

O’Neill could see additional expansion in the future as business continues to boom.
