Photos: BMA Ball Celebrates Museum’s 110th Anniversary with Fun and Fashion
From famed filmmaker John Waters and portrait artist Amy Sherald to The Baltimore Beat‘s Teri Henderson and Bmore Art’s Cara Ober, the Baltimore Museum of Art was filled with faces that contribute to the city’s rich arts and culture scene this past weekend.
On Saturday, November 23, the museum celebrated its 110th anniversary with the BMA Ball, an evening that united more than 400 supporters and honored three renowned arts advocates—John Akomfrah, LaToya Ruby Frazier, and Sherrilyn Ifill—who impact social change through their work. Artists Akomfrah and Frazier received the Artists Who Inspire Awards, while Ifill—a civil rights lawyer and BMA Trustree—was presented with the Changemaker Who Inspires Award.
Following the presentation, a sit-down dinner, remarks from honorary event co-chairs Governor Wes Moore and First Lady Dawn Moore, and a special video message from John Legend (yes, that John Legend), after-party attendees hit the dance floor to enjoy entertainment by DJ Tanz and the Lethal Ladies. In total, the gala raised a record-breaking $1 million to continue the museum’s many arts and education programs—hopefully for another century to come.
