Piche up for top job in Jefferson County government

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – The longtime county manager in Lewis County is moving one county over.

A special meeting of the Jefferson County legislature has been called for Tuesday. One of the items on the agenda is appointing a new county administrator.

Ryan Piche will be named to replace Robert Hagemann in the county’s top job, according to a statement from county legislature chairman Bill Johnson. Hagemann announced in February that he is retiring in June.

The exact terms of Piche’s employment are still being finalized, according to Johnson’s statement. He noted that PIche’s selection followed a ‘thorough recruitment effort’ to find Hagemann’s successor.

Piche has served as Lewis County’s manager since July, 2017. Before that, he was briefly the city manager of Caro, MIchigan and village administrator in Botkins, Ohio.

Piche has a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Albany, and a bachelor of arts degree from LeMoyne College in Syracuse.

Hagemann held Jeferson County’s top job for years and worked for county government for a total of 28 years.

The county administrator is the top non-elected position in county government and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the county, creating the annual budget, and many other duties.
