Pick Your Ride campaign extended through 2025, offering El Pasoans safer travel options

Labor Day weekend is one of the deadliest and busiest times on the road due to alcohol-related crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The El Paso Police Department and the El Paso District Attorney continued their efforts against drinking and driving.

The District Attorney gave a $20 voucher for El Pasoans to book an Uber ride home, instead of getting behind the wheel.

The Pick Your Ride campaign started in December of 2023, and the DA now securing funding for the campaign to have the campaign until the end of fiscal year 2025.

Those who are out drinking can find the weekly QR codes for the voucher here.

El Pasoans said the program is important.

“It helps because it helps keep people safe, it keeps you out of a dangerous situation, instead of getting behind the wheel of a car, keeps innocent people that did not make the choice to drunk drive out of a dangerous situation,” said Kelly Darst, an El Pasoan.

The El Paso Police Department stayed vigilant during the holiday weekend, with the Teas Department of Transportation Selective Traffic Enforcement program.

EPPD enforces DWI laws with the STEP program.

Officials with the department stated that the enforcement is increased during popular drinking holidays such as Labor Day weekend.
