Pioneer Valley High School Apparel, Construction and Design students —level 1 and 2 — showcased some of their student-made garments at the Allan Hancock Fashion Show on April 19.
The Panthers made various garments including dresses, rompers, skirts, button up collared shirts, pajama pants and tote bags in their apparel courses.
“I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to do this. I never thought that it would come to a point where I would learn so much from a class and be able to make something so detailed from scratch,” said senior Biviana Medina.
Pioneer Valley family and consumer sciences teacher Melissa Diaz said that she could not be prouder of the Pioneer Valley fashion students.
“My students have completely impressed me with the quality and challenging garments they made. Their commitment and hard work inspire me every day,” said Diaz.
Diaz said that the Hancock fashion show was a perfect opportunity to show off their designs and that the best part was getting to see the well-deserved sense of pride the students had.
“I’m proud of myself. I couldn’t be more grateful to Mrs. Diaz for showing me everything I know. I also appreciate Allan Hancock for allowing my design to be included in the fashion show, it was a dream come true,” said senior Kimberly Jarquin-Antonio.
The PV fashion program collaborates with AHC throughout the year with concurrent enrollment courses, FASH 110. The students earn the college credits on Pioneer Valley’s campus.
The high school district has nearly 40 career technical education (CTE) pathways and more than 40 industry partners.
