Pitney Bowes to close Canal Winchester warehouse, eliminating 163 jobs

The technology and shipping company Pitney Bowes is closing its Canal Winchester warehouse, eliminating the jobs of 163 workers.
The Connecticut-based company told the state that it plans to close its Global Ecommerce facility at 6111 Bixby Rd., eliminating all jobs at the facility. Layoffs will start Oct. 8.
Package handlers represent the largest share of employees at the facility, followed by drivers and forklift operators.

In its note to the state, the company said none of the workers have a right to another job with the company, and that “the company expects that these layoffs will be permanent.”
Pitney Bowes is the latest of several companies to cut warehouse jobs over the past year, including Arlington Contact Lens Service, Insight Direct USA, Sid Tool, DHL Supply Chain, Zulily and Newell Brands.
A representative of Pitney Bowes, which specializes in shipping, mailing and financial services, could not be immediately reached for comment.
On a more positive note from Canal Winchester, the logistics company DB Schenker has leased all of a 450,696-square-foot warehouse on Robinett Way in the new Canal Pointe development by Molto Properties.
