Planet Fitness National Lead Trainer, Teddy Savage, joins us on the show this morning to demonstrate exercises to help stay in shape after 4th of July cookouts.

Teddy joined morning anchor Megan Gilliland to demonstrate a series of kettlebell exercises, placing an emphasis on unilateral movement.

Teddy describes unilateral movement as movements that independently work one side of the body at a time, and said they’re important because oftentimes when doing exercises that involve both sides of your body, the dominant side of your body could overcompensate and endure more weight than your non-dominant side, resulting in an unbalanced workout.

The exercises the two demonstrated were kettlebell suitcase carry, single leg kettlebell hip hinge, standing kettlebell arm extension with opposite knee march, and kettlebell unilateral push-press. Teddy recommended doing three sets of ten reps for each side for each exercise, with any weight comfortable enough for you.
