ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – There could be another hangout option in the Roanoke Valley. Developers are looking to build a new restaurant and entertainment center with the goal of opening in 2025.

The owners say 540 Social will be a place that all ages can enjoy.

“The arcade that we’ll have there would be great for all ages. You know, people can do classics like Skee-ball or air hockey, and kids can run around and get tickets all on a digital card for redemption,” described Mitchell Tyler, co-owner of 540 Social.

Tyler says activities from pickleball, bowling, darts, and axe throwing will be offered for the more mature crowd. Plans for the site also include mini golf, but not your average putt-putt style.

“This is more of a call to championship-style course. And so it’s really modeled after a professional golf course. And then just shrunk down. You have bunkers and you have hills and such, but it’s not themed,” explained Tyler.

A restaurant is also planned for the space, along with a venue for group events holding up to 300 people.

As for what it would mean for traffic along this section of 460 in Bonsack on what is now an empty lot near an Exxon station, Tyler says there won’t be any additional traffic lights; however there will be plans to call for a turning lane.

“When you’re looking at that right now, there is… the road just sort of appears. But in order to get traffic off the drive lane to travel into 460, we’d be installing a turn lane there, which would actually decrease a little bit of traffic,” explained Tyler.

A public hearing will be held July 25th during the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors meeting, where they will also vote on this moving forward.
