Platform One College set to launch new weekend fashion school for teens

Saturday Fashion School is a course designed to give teenagers the chance to begin exploring mood and colour boards, before experimenting with sewing and construction skills.

Platform One’s Sustainable Fashion department, in Wadhams, Newport, is hosting the programme — the first of its kind for students aged between 14 and 16.

The course is aimed at young people with an interest in fashion, but with no prior experience necessary. It follows the successful Saturday Rock School the music department of Platform One puts on.

The final week will focus on fashion design and styling, where students can dress up and photograph each other, using clothes and accessories from the Platform One Sustainable Fashion wardrobe.

Much of the wardrobe has been donated by the Island’s fashion community.

Platform One spokesperson, Hannah Woodford, said: “This is the first of a few courses we are planning for younger students, aged between 14 and 16 years.

“There are only 20 places available for this first course, but if students miss this one, there will be more to come after Christmas.”

The course will be held on November 16, 23 and 30, from 1pm to 3pm.

It costs £50 for the three-week course, including all materials.
