Police: Deadly mass shooting in KC’s Westport entertainment district
KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a mass shooting in Kansas City that left one dead and multiple injured.
Just before 1:30a.m. Sunday, police in the Westport Entertainment District responded to the sound of gun fire near the intersection of Westport and Broadway, according to Sheriff Daryl Forte’
First responders found multiple shooting victims. EMS responded and treated victims for non-life-threatening injuries. EMS and private vehicle transported six victims to area hospital where one man was pronounced deceased.
A preliminary investigation indicated the shooting was the result of a disturbance that escalated into gunfire, according to the KCPD.
Police believe there are many witnesses since a large crowd near the scene of the shooting dispersed when shots were fired. Detectives and crime scene investigators have processed the scene for evidence and also want to speak with anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting.
