Police: Man tased, arrested after forcing way into Colorado Springs business, assaulting officers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Police say they had to tase a man after he forced his way into a southwest Colorado Springs business Saturday.

An employee was working in their office around 4:30 p.m. when they heard someone trying to break down the door.

“The [employee] warned the suspect they were inside and told the suspect they were calling the police. The suspect was not deterred and broke through the door,” a CSPD lieutenant said.

The worker was able to get out of the building safely, but when officers arrived, the suspect was still inside, sitting in an office.

“The suspect refused to cooperate with officers’ commands,” the lieutenant said. “The officers utilized a conducted energy weapon — Taser — to gain the suspect’s compliance.”

The Taser was ineffective, and the suspect assaulted both officers before they finally detained him, the lieutenant said. He was then booked into the El Paso County jail, where he remains Sunday. The suspect was identified by police as Jody Jackson and is facing numerous charges including burglary and assault on a peace officer. Both he and the officers all sustained minor injuries.

The office is located just south of Lake and Southgate on Southpointe Circle, an office park with mostly medical businesses. Police said they have not found any connection between the suspect and the business he broke into. The name of that business has not been released.
