The New England Patriots will try to snap their five-game losing streak in Saturday’s clash with the Los Angeles Chargers.
They’ll look to bounce back from a surprisingly close 24-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 16. Quarterback Drake Maye went 22-of-36 passing for 261 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
His favorite receiving targets were wide receiver Kayshon Boutte and tight end Austin Hooper. Boutte finished with five catches and a team-high 95 yards and one touchdown, while Hooper hauled in four receptions for 55 yards.
Meanwhile, the Chargers are coming off a dramatic comeback win over the Denver Broncos. Justin Herbert went 23-of-31 passing for 284 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Gus Edwards powered the rushing attack with 14 carries for 68 yards and two touchdowns.
Rookie wideout Ladd McConkey also continued to have a strong season with six catches for 87 yards.
The Chargers were victorious in the last meeting between the two teams in December 2023, but the Patriots have the upper hand in the series by a 27-16-2 margin.
Los Angeles has multiple offensive weapons to attack New England’s defense, but everything could come down to the Patriots’ ability to slow down the rushing attack.
It has been a struggle for the defensive front throughout the season, and they’ll once again be tested by the Chargers on Saturday. But can the Patriots offense limit the mistakes and make enough plays to keep them in the game?
