Popular YouTuber Tries to Remove Video Showing Him Recklessly Speeding Near Children, But Fans Refuse to Let Him Off the Hook
A popular YouTuber is facing backlash after posting a video that showed him driving at nearly triple the posted speed limit in a residential area.
Marques Brownlee, also known as MKBHD, is a prominent figure in the tech world, known for his high-quality reviews of electronics and tech gadgets on YouTube. With over 19 million subscribers, his influence is considered substantial.
In recent months, Brownlee has faced criticism for prioritizing sponsored content. Most recently, on November 11, a clip surfaced showing Brownlee speeding at 96 mph in a 35-mph zone with clear signage warning to watch out for children.
The short video prompted a significant response from viewers, with many condemning the unsafe driving and questioning his judgment, Dexerto reported.
“It’s definitely the most reckless thing you’ve done, but in the last month or so you continue to damage your reputation. First, the wallpaper app, then the speeding, now you’re doing 9 minute sponsor videos you once said you’d never do,” an X user commented.
Following the backlash, Brownlee edited out the speeding clip and apologized to his viewers, admitting the clip added nothing of value to the video and was a poor choice to include.
“Last video I did something pretty stupid. You might’ve already seen it, but maybe not so I’ll address it here. There was a clip with the action cam of me test driving a car and going way to fast. Absolutely inexcusable and dangerous. I’ve since cut it out of the video with YouTube’s editor tool. I also understand that this looks like covering it up, but I think it’s the right thing to do,” Brownlee wrote on X.
The YouTuber expressed regret for the dangerous behavior, but fans are still displaying mixed reactions. Some remain critical while others have accepted the apology.
“The downfall started here,” one commenter wrote while another added, “Thumbs up for the fast apology. Still reckless thing to do. A lesson for the future.”
“All I can do apologize and promise never to do anything close to that stupid again. That’s a terrible example to set and I’m sorry for it,” he wrote.
