Porsche is celebrating the 911 Dakar with a gorgeous one-off

Porsche is celebrating what is arguably the wildest iteration of Porsche 911 ever, the 911 Dakar, with a new swansong edition called the Sonderwunsch 911 Dakar.

Designed as a one-off for an Italian collector, this’ll be the last-ever Porsche 911 Dakar.

Production was capped at 2,500 units, and this is the very last one.

All good things must come to an end, unfortunately.

The Sonderwunsch is a swan song tribute to the wildest production Porsche ever, the Porsche 911 Dakar

When Porsche first teased concepts and prototypes for the car that would then become the production version of the 911 Dakar, everyone assumed it was just a design exercise, but it wasn’t.

Porsche promised they would turn it into a production model, and that’s exactly what they did.

This is the last one, aptly called ‘Sonderwunsch’ because that’s German for ‘special request’.

The Sonderwunsch is powered by the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder engine as any other 911 Dakar, putting out 470HP and 420lb-ft of torque.

The livery is a tribute to the Rallye Design Package used at the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally, with Signalyellow and Gentianbluemetallic mixed with Lampedusablue.

By the way, those are not typos, in case you’re wondering.

For some reason, Porsche spells those color names like that, Gentianbluemetallic instead of Gentian blue metallic.

When supercars become off-roaders

The 911 Dakar debuted about two years ago.

It was very well-received, both by critics and collectors, and its launch coincided with that of another equivalent supercar-turned-rally car, the Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato.

After Porsche and Lambo, everyone immediately began wondering whether Ferrari would follow suit, but they didn’t.

Unfortunately, Ferrari didn’t join this particular bandwagon with an SF90 counterpart.

A designer who goes by IlDar on Instagram decided to take matters into his own hands and came up with a fan-made Ferrari SF90 ‘Stradale’ that looks tremendous.

It’s a shame Ferrari never actually thought about it because it could’ve been great.
