Post-Christmas Travel Disrupted by Severe Weather, Aviation Incidents Nationwide

Millions of Americans attempting to return home after Christmas are facing significant travel disruptions due to severe weather conditions affecting multiple regions across the country. The South is grappling with severe storms and flash flooding, with some areas expecting up to 4 inches of rain, while the West Coast continues to battle an atmospheric river bringing powerful winds, heavy rain, and snow.
In Sherman, Texas, a tragic flooding incident resulted in one fatality when a vehicle was swept away by floodwaters. While four occupants were successfully rescued, search operations were conducted for another victim. The aviation sector has also experienced significant disruptions. American Airlines implemented a nationwide ground stop, contributing to thousands of travel delays during the peak holiday period. Additional incidents included a security scare at Phoenix’s Sky Harbor Airport following reports of gunfire, though authorities later confirmed no suspects were being sought and reported no injuries.
