Post Fire: California Highway Patrol urges patience with Grapevine travel

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — (KBAK/FOX58) The Post Fire has burned more than 15,000 acres near Gorman along the I-5 Freeway. The blaze’s proximity to the road is causing some headaches for drivers and California Highway Patrol.

CHP Fort Tejon Officer D.C. Williams said law enforcement is cleaning up the roads after several fire-related accidents.

“People trying to look at the fire, looking at the smoke looking at the flames that they could see,” Williams said. “We had people stopping in the center divider, right shoulder taking those pictures which is extremely dangerous.”

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Williams reminds drivers to make sure their vehicles are not the cause of any future flames.

“If you are pulling a trailer, make sure those chains are not dragging,” Williams said. “Make sure you have got an emergency kit because there still could still be some closures off and on.”
