Prediction and betting odds for Lakers vs. Jazz

The Los Angeles Lakers visit the Utah Jazz on Sunday, and if you’re looking to do some last-minute betting research, you’re in luck! We’ll give you the latest point spread, money line odds and over/under number, as well as the information you’ll need to make the smartest bet.

The Lakers start a four-game road trip having lost four of their last five contests, including Friday’s 101-93 setback at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder. With an 11-8 record, they have fallen to eighth place in the Western Conference, and they need to stop the bleeding now. Otherwise, they will be in danger of falling under .500 with a road-heavy schedule coming up in December.

Utah has the Western Conference’s second-worst record at 4-15 and is coming off a 106-94 defeat to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday. It will be facing the Lakers for the second time this season — the Lakers defeated Utah at Crypto.com Arena 124-118 on Nov. 19, although they gave up 74 points in the second half of that contest.

Lakers vs Jazz injury updates:

Lakers: Anthony Davis (left plantar fasciitis) is probable. Austin Reaves (left pelvic contusion) is questionable. D’Angelo Russell (illness) is doubtful. Jaxson Hayes (right ankle sprain/contusion), Bronny James Jr. (left heel contusion), Jarred Vanderbilt (right foot surgery recovery) and Christian Wood (left knee surgery recovery) are out.

Jazz: No injury report has been submitted yet, but Jordan Clarkson (left plantar fasciitis), Kyle Filipowski (left lower leg injury maintenance) and Taylor Hendricks (right fibula fracture) missed their last game.

Advice and Prediction:

While the Jazz are an awful team all-around, there may not be such a thing as an easy game for Los Angeles right now, given its problems on the defensive end. It ranks 25th in defensive rating, 23rd in defensive field-goal percentage, 28th in fast-break points per game allowed and 26th in opponent’s points in the paint per game and second-chance points per game given up.

One area the Jazz do excel in is rebounding. They rank sixth in both total rebounding percentage and offensive rebounding percentage, and since L.A. is just 26th in defensive rebounding percentage, this could be a problem, as it has been for a while. On Nov. 19, it got outrebounded by eight and was outscored in the paint by 14 by Utah.

Still, we feel this will be a “get-right” game for the Purple and Gold, especially with Jordan Clarkson, a key scorer off the bench, out for Utah. However, we don’t feel confident the Lakers will cover the spread, and given their problems defensively, it may be wise to take the over on the over/under.

Prediction: Lakers 119, Thunder 114
