Preparing for holiday season air travel

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) – As the holiday season approaches, a new report indicates that many airports will experience a surge in travelers. From December 20 to 24, air travel is expected to be particularly busy.

According to Luxury Link, some airports will see a significant increase in daily passengers. For example, Alexandria International Airport (AEX) typically handles an average of 289 daily travelers. However, during the holiday rush, that number drops to 281 as larger airports become more congested.

Ralph Hennessey, the Executive Director of England Air Park, emphasized the importance of coordination between smaller airports and larger hubs during peak travel times. He noted that passengers must be aware of the higher volume of travelers.

To ensure a smoother experience, Hennessey advises passengers to arrive at the airport 1.5 to 2 hours before their flight. He cautions that there will likely be longer lines at ticket counters and security checkpoints. Remember, your flight’s departure time is when the plane is leaving the gate.

For those checking bags, it is important to know the airline’s deadlines. American Airlines requires that aircraft doors be closed 10 minutes before departure, meaning bags must be checked in well ahead of that time. Similarly, Delta Airlines asks passengers to check their bags at least 30 minutes before their flight.
