Project Mugen Is Now Called Ananta

Project Mugen is now called Ananta, according to a new trailer released by NetEase. The trailer also revealed more of what players can expect to find within the game’s open world.

The trailer for Ananta puts a great emphasis on the game’s use of vehicles, with hints of street races and various characters getting in and out of cars. It appears that players will be able to commandeer vehicles from NPCs, similar to the Grand Theft Auto series but much less violent. There is also a brief snippet of a gunfight taking place while another character drives, and a battle with a car that’s turned into a violent robot, so it’s clear that vehicles will also play a part in combat.

While some snippets of combat were shown in the new Ananta trailer, these weren’t as extensive as those seen in the original Project Mugen trailer. Instead, we got a greater emphasis on other activities available within the game’s open world. As well as Spider-Man style parkour element, the game will also feature a number of side activities. These include basketball, weightlifting and darts, but it’s possible the final game will feature more.

Here’s the latest video highlighting Ananta gameplay.

Ananta was originally announced as Project Mugen in 2023. It’s a free-to-play open world game from NetEase and developer Naked Rain, where players take control of a band of psychics who fight off paranormal threats to the city. Despite the new trailer, no release date as been confirmed for the game yet, but pre-registration is open.

Ananta (formerly Project Mugen) is currently in development for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices. Pre-registration is open now.
