BORGER, Texas (KFDA) – Borger Economic Development Corporation has partnered with 828 Sports Ventures to build a $100 million sports complex on 100 acres.

“The impact on the community has endless possibilities. It could raise our hot taxes, our sales tax; it’ll help the community, our local businesses as well as our school systems. It really can impact not just our community but the entire Panhandle region,” said Amy Fesser, executive director for Borger Economic Development Corporation.

The BoomTown MultiDome Sports Complex will include indoor and outdoor courts, a water park, meeting spaces, a hotel and restaurants.

“We have access within a 6 hour radius to about a 30 million population and of course, if anyone’s done travel sports it’s now become evident it’s about a $90 billion a year industry,” said Fesser.

This will be a mostly privately-funded project with 828 Sports Ventures, and the Borger EDC will create incentive agreements and tap into reserves for funding.

Borger City Manager Garrett Spradling says like any economic development, it’s a work in progress and does take a little amount of risk.

“We’ve had success with local projects, we’ve had failures with local projects. We’ve had success with big out of state projects and we’ve had failures with big out of state projects, so we’re making sure that we do all of this within our current means without any lasting or serious impact to our community,” said Spradling.

The city and 828 Sports Ventures will hold a news conference on May 22 in Borger to go over additional details of the project.
