Qualcomm CEO: We’re just getting started on our PC push

Qualcomm (QCOM) made a series of announcements at CES, including the debut of a new Snapdragon X chip for more affordable laptops and desktops. CEO Cristiano Amon says tells Yahoo Finance Tech Editor Dan Howley it’s all about becoming the “new Qualcomm.”

“We realized that all of our technologies that we had developed in mobile, they could make a difference in many different industries,” he says. Amon uses the auto industry as an example. “With gen AI, we’re going to see the digital cockpit changing in this new computing space, that we are going to talk to the car like we used to think about in science fiction. That’s going to be a normal interaction with the car computing space.”

Amon describes the Snapdragon X announcement as a “big deal” because “We decided to do something nobody [has] done before: uncompromised AI. The same AI performance on X Elite, but now on a laptop that is going to be $600.” He adds, “You should expect in future product announcements that Qualcomm will continue to expand the portfolio and we’re in the PC segment to stay. We’re not going anywhere.”
