Queen Sell Music Catalog For Over $1 Billion To Sony Music

The iconic band Queen has reportedly reached a deal with Sony Music to sell their music catalog for $1.27 billion. The deal is the largest of its kind ever. According to Variety, another bidder offered $900 million but fell short. Sony previously bought Bruce Springsteen’s back catalog for an estimated $500 million and 50% of Michael Jackson’s catalog for roughly $600 million. Queen’s music catalog is among the most valuable of the rock era, with classics like ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ ‘Radio Ga Ga,’ and ‘We Will Rock You.’ The details of the deal are still unclear, as Disney has owned the band’s recording rights in the US and Canada since the 1990s. The three surviving members of the British band and the estate of late singer Freddie Mercury are all equal shareholders in Queen Productions Ltd.
