Rattlers travel to Gainesville for road game at Florida – Florida A&M

GAINESVILLE, Fla. –– Florida A&M travel to Gainesville, Florida for a challenging road game versus the Florida Gators.

The Rattlers, coming off a tough 78-66 loss to Howard in the season opener, look to bounce back as they face a Florida team currently ranked among the nation’s best in vital defensive metrics.

The Rattlers bring a competitive edge in several areas, notably their ability to generate offense off the bench, with 43 bench points per game. This depth will be essential against a Florida squad that ranks third nationally in blocks per game, averaging an impressive 11 blocks. Florida A&M must maximize its scoring opportunities from multiple contributors to counter Florida’s defensive presence in the paint.

One of the key strengths for the Rattlers this season has been their three-point shooting. Florida A&M currently ranks third nationally with a 57.1% three-point shooting percentage, and they’ll look to leverage this strength to spread the Florida defense. D’Mya Griffin has been a standout in this department after making five three-pointers last game. If she and her teammates can maintain this level of shooting, Florida A&M could pose a real threat from beyond the arc.

Florida enters this game with a stout defense, allowing only 54 points in their last game, thanks to a combination of effective shot-blocking and strong rebounding. The Gators also boast a disciplined offensive unit with a 2.38 assist-to-turnover ratio, ranking 13th nationally. Florida A&M will need to bring intense pressure to disrupt the Gators’ rhythm and force turnovers, an area where the Rattlers forced 22 turnovers versus Howard.

For Florida A&M, limiting fouls and securing rebounds will be crucial to avoid giving the Gators second-chance opportunities. Although FAMU ranks high in offensive rebounds per game (18.0), maintaining control on the boards will be critical against a taller and physical Florida frontcourt.

This matchup will be a true test for the Rattlers, but it also offers an opportunity for Florida A&M to make a statement against a Power 4 in-state opponent.
