Reasons why Notre Dame beats Georgia

The highly anticipated matchup between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish should be a very competitive game in the Sugar Bowl. Notre Dame enters the game as slight underdogs in what is expected to be a close of a College Football Playoff quarterfinal game.

Why will Notre Dame beat Georgia in the Sugar Bowl?

Notre Dame has more momentum

The Fighting Irish have won 11 games in a row and the average margin of victory is 28 points since their loss in Week 2 against Northern Illinois. They have won shootouts and physical battles and they’ve shown that they can adapt to any situation they are put in.

Notre Dame’s momentum can help them win the Sugar Bowl against the Bulldogs, who may be rusty after not playing for almost a month.

Georgia can’t pass on Notre Dame’s secondary

The Fighting Irish secondary is one the best secondaries in the country. The leader of the Notre Dame secondary is senior safety Xavier Watts, who is second in the nation with six interceptions. Notre Dame has four defensive backs that have two plus interceptions and four or more pass deflections. Gunner Stockton is not facing an easy secondary in his first career start.

Turnovers

Forcing turnovers is what what makes the Notre Dame defense so great. Their turnover margin is plus 16, which ranks tied for third in the nation. Notre Dame has 18 interceptions (No. 3 in the nation). New Georgia starting quarterback Gunner Stockton lacks experience and Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman will try and scheme something up to create turnovers.

The Sugar Bowl will played in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Jan. 1 at 8:45 p.m. ET.
