Red Sox red, regal ensembles, and big shoulders: 10 runway takeaways from Boston Fashion Week – The Boston Globe

There’s nothing like a sparkling corset, bodysuit, or dress to light up a room. This year, don’t just reserve the glitz and glam for your jewelry. Instead, think New Year’s Eve all year round, as seen in a gemmed-out dress from the CONRAD LAMOUR collection and the gold and black glitter gown by Zonya Campbell.

Red stepped onto the stage as the color of the year last fall, and while shades of green are starting to take over, red isn’t done yet. Deeper shades of red, like burgundy and maroon, have filled various runways of other cities, but for Boston, think Red Sox red. This shade steals the show as seen in Minted Supply’s Roulette design, a gown from the CONRAD LAMOUR collection, and dresses by Zonya Campbell and Dress with C.

Tired of red? Then move slightly over on the color wheel. Lighter shades of purple, even with pink undertones, were spotted on multiple runways, including Lun Urai X Honilé’s Twilight Bloom design, Vo StewartBaxter’s La Luna y Yo design, and Renu Gupta’s pre-draped sari, paired with an embroidered blouse and jacket. This color is excellent for formal occasions or to keep in mind for spring.

Transparent clothing was revived in the past two years with the most painful childhood footwear for ’90s and 2000s kids: jelly shoes. While the trend of mesh turtlenecks with bralettes underneath is worn through, the fashion world is now venturing into netted shoes and see-through maxi skirts. Lace was the most popular material on Boston’s runways to achieve this look, as seen in Lun Urai X Honilé’s Blue Whisper design and Vo StewartBaxter’s Días Perdidos dress. Try out a lace skirt with a sweater and boots as it gets colder or break it out when the warmer weather returns.

Voluminous silhouettes filled the runways, such as the Lillian Pexton parachute dress, but it was especially found in shoulders. The Doublet Inspired Handcrafted Hanji Armor from Renverre’s VESTIGE collection shows a large and loud frame for the ultimate statement, and Elliot H X Jia’s RR. Remember when playing dress up was the highlight of your day? You may be older and your fashion has certainly evolved, but that doesn’t mean traces of your youth — the bright colors and joyous silhouettes — have to be erased from your wardrobe.

A yellow collared dress from Nathalia JMag Label’s “I’m just a girl” collection invokes images of “Madeline,” while the Lillian Pexton parachute dress is a callback to playing cat and mouse in gym class and a reminder that fashion is supposed to be fun. Additionally, the S’mbles collection’s ombré sequined lehanga choli with a ruffled dupatta radiated Cinderella vibes.

Don’t worry, you don’t have to put feathers back in your hair just yet. But you may consider adding them to your sleeves or neckline for a fun flare. House of Culture showed off two feather looks at Boston En Vogue’s Classical Luxury Runway Show: the Fran Feather Jumpsuit and the Feather Mirror Mini Dress. The S’mbles collection by Renu Gupta also added feathers to a purple look with a pre-draped sari, paired with an embroidered blouse and jacket.

As the weather gets colder, outerwear has to work overtime, and there was no shortage of black jackets with silver accents. From leather to zippers, eyelets, and rings, most pieces came in oversized or cropped frames such as in Bi11ies’ Flight Jacket and Biker Jacket. Keep the ensemble going with matching jeans, leather pants, or trousers, perfect for fall and winter.

Tapestry. Armor. Gowns. What else needs to be said? Boston Fashion Week has definitely given the OK to live out your favorite medieval TV show in real life. Focus on colors like the regal red in the CONRAD LAMOUR collection’s leather jacket. And for textures, look to the metal in Lamour’s breastplate and the traditional Iranian fabric in 3NDOLITH’s Termeh dress. These elements can even be combined for corset and blazer options.
