Rene’s Travel Diary

Whitefish, Montana (WAGM) -It’s back to Aroostook County for Rene Cloukey and 21 Holiday Vacaton/WAGM travelers. The group spent 10 days traveling to Glacier National Park, Yellowstone and to the Grand Tetons. This week Rene Cloukey shares his travel diary.

It was another very memorable trip for 21 travelers from Aroostook Couny. There was excitement and nervousness as we boarded a bus for our pre travel day to Boston. After getting a good night’s sleep we were on our way to Salt Lake City and then to Missoula, Montana for the start of the adventure. There was a haze in Salt Lake City because of the wild fires in California and other western states, but the haze and smoke made for a beautiul sunset as we traveled to Missoula for the Start of the trip. We met up with another 22 travelers from eight different states. Day two began in Whitefish and a visit to the Historical Museum of Fort Missoula,a 32 acre park that tells the story of western Montana’s past. From the one room Grant Creek schoolhouse to the Civial Conservatoin Corps to the 25th infantry bicycle Corps that was organizerd in 1896. Also the Fort Missoula Alien Detention Center that held foreign nationals and resident aliens during World War II

After a welcome lunch we travel to Whitefish and take a scenic gondola ride to the Mountaintop of the Whitefish Mountain Resort for bird’s eye views of Whitefish Lake, the Flathead Valley, Glacier National Park and the Northern Rockies. The views were spectacular and breaktaking. This was just the start of our beautiful Scenery. Day three of the trip was a stop at Glacier National Park with 20 glaciers and 200 lakes. We board the Vintage 1930′s Red Buses for one of the world’s most scenic routes on the “Going to the Sun” road. That will be in part two of the travel Diaries. Rene Cloukey NewsSource 8.
