Congresswoman Claudia Tenney and Congressman Nick Langworthy are calling on the CDC to delay new rules for dogs entering the U.S. from Canada. The rules, set to start August 1, require dogs to be over six months old, appear healthy, have a USDA-endorsed health certificate, and a CDC-approved Dog Import Form.
Reps. Elise Stefanik, Michael Lawler, Tim Kennedy, Marc Molinaro, and Nick LaLota also signed the letter. They argue the rules pose logistical challenges and confusion, potentially affecting lawful canine activities.
“These rules will cause unnecessary difficulties and costs for pet owners,” Tenney said. Langworthy added, “We seek an 18-month delay to consult with stakeholders and find a balanced approach that protects public health without burdening dog owners.”
