Reports: Jordanian minister travels to Tehran for mediation talks

Jordanian Foreign Minister Aiman al-Safadi has travelled to Tehran for mediation talks in view of the threat of an Iranian retaliatory strike against Israel, local media reported on Sunday.

In talks with Iran’s acting foreign minister, Ali Bagheri Kani, he wanted to dissuade the country from taking military action against Israel, according to the reports.

According to official statements from Cairo, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atti also urged Kani in a telephone conversation that all parties must exercise calm and restraint so that the situation in the Middle East does not get out of control.

According to Iranian media reports, Iran has so far refused all attempts at mediation.

After the targeted killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on Wednesday, Iran threatened Israel with massive revenge.

The commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) warned on Saturday that militant groups allied with Iran in the region would also take part in the retaliatory strike.
