Residents Urged to Find Travel Alternatives on Car Free Day
Sept. 23 is Car Free or Car Lite Day in the Washington, D.C. area.
The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) urges everyone to carpool, pedal, walk or take public transit.
Participants who pledge to remain car free can do so online and automatically be entered for a chance to win a Samsung tablet, gift cards, annual memberships, transit passes and other prizes from area businesses and non-profits.
Local businesses are supporting the effort to decongest the streets, according to COG.
“Car Free Day presents an exciting opportunity for the region to come together and travel more sustainably,” said Daniel Sheehan, Director of Commuter Connections. “Thousands of metropolitan Washington region residents, workers, and students have made the decision to benefit their health, the community and our environment today.”
