Retro Fitness to honor first responders, those lost in 9/11 with memorial stair climb event

National gym chain Retro Fitness is hosting a memorial event on Tuesday honoring the nearly 3,000 people who died in the 9/11 attack in 2001.

All Retro Fitness members are invited to participate in the September 11th Memorial Stair Climb at their local club by climbing 110 flights of stairs or walking 2,071 steps, which reflects the Twin Towers’ 110-story height.

Retro Fitness will also be welcoming first responders to work out for free on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at any of their more than 200 locations across eight states.

The health club said it is hosting the event as part of its belief in the health being impacted by community.

“Retro Fitness believes emotional and holistic physical and mental health is tied to meaningful community and physical activity, and wants to support our members and first responders in tangible ways,” they said in a release.

Members who participate in the event will score an extra 250 Retro rewards points. Anyone who accomplishes the challenge will receive a free commemorative T-shirt.

As a thank you to first responders for their brave work, Retro Fitness will also be offering them free smoothies on Sept. 11. Smoothies will be available at participating locations, while supplies last. Check with your local club to see if they will have smoothies on Tuesday.
