Reward offered in killing of javelina found in Tucson business district

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Operation Game Thief program is offering a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case of a javelina recently found shot dead in the 1400 block of South Cherrybell Stra near 22nd and S. Kino Parkway.

Arizona Game and Fish officials said the offense likely occurred between 5 p.m. Oct. 21 and 4 a.m. Oct. 22. The male javelina was killed by a single gunshot at close range.

Physical evidence was recovered at the scene. “Poachers are criminals. They are thieves who steal wildlife from Arizona citizens,” said Regional Supervisor Raul Vega of Game and Fish in Tucson. “Especially troubling about this case is that the javelina was left in full view of the public in a parking lot.”

Anyone with information about the case are urged to call the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Operation Game Thief Hotline at 800-352-0700, anonymously if necessary, and reference OGT#24-002958.

The maximum penalties for illegally taking wildlife are four months in jail and a $750 fine. Civil penalties may also apply.
