Rising costs make essential back-to-school shopping difficult
WILTON, N.D. (KFYR) – If you’ve started your back-to-school shopping you’ve likely noticed some higher prices.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics says within the past couple of years, the annual inflation rate has spiked, and prices for school supplies increased almost 24 percent.
Wilton Elementary School first-grade teacher Darcie Faul says finding items on sale or reusing school supplies can help.
She also says schools have resources to help parents who are struggling to provide the necessities.
“I think it all just adds up as with everything else. Prices have gone up so it is just another cost families have to think about in the fall, and I know it adds up quickly. Being a parent myself like gym shoes, water bottles, headphones, and all the supplies,” said Faul.
Faul says the school supply lists include necessities the students use every day.
She says if parents don’t provide them, it falls on the teachers.
