NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A robbery and assault that possibly led to an arson Wednesday afternoon is being investigated by police and fire officials.

The Nashville Fire Department (NFD) said an assault and robbery occurred inside a clothing store at 4702 Nolensville Pike. Several people called 911 to report a person had been assaulted and then to report a fire at the same location, said Kendra Loney, spokesperson for the NFD.

“When crews arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the bathroom in the clothing store, which is in between the Cricket Wireless and the Salon,” Loney wrote in an email. “The smoke from the fire was venting out from the salon portion. Multiple businesses have damages that will include smoke and water.”

Miguel Gomez, the owner of the building that houses multiple businesses that caught fire, said it was one of his tenants who was assaulted by an unknown suspect. The tenant’s condition is unknown at this time. She’s receiving medical treatment for her injuries.

“She was beat up pretty bad,” Gomez told WSMV4.

The Metro Nashville Police Department is still searching for suspect responsible for the assault. Police on scene said they’re also investigating after it was reported the victim’s victim was stolen.

There were no other injuries other than the woman assaulted, Loney said. Fire investigators are investigating what led up to the fire.
