Rock River Rapids participating in The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson

DERBY, Kan. (KSNW) — Rocker River Rapids is participating in The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson.

“We’re joining facilities around the world in an attempt to set a world record and build awareness about the importance of teaching kids to swim,” said Derby Recreation. “Join Rock River Rapids’ staff in promoting the vital message that SWIMMING SAVES LIVES!”

According to the WLSL, drowning is the number one cause of death for U.S. children ages 1-4 and the second leading cause for ages 5-14.

Research from the American Academy of Pediatrics shows the risk of drowning can be reduced by 88% if children participate in formal swimming lessons between the ages of 1-4.

Registration for the event begins at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 20. The lesson will start at 10 a.m.

The event is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome. Anyone 3 and under requires an adult to be the water with them. One adult per child.

Rock River Rapids is located at 801 E. Market St. in Derby. Click here to learn more.
