Rockford’s unemployment rates decrease, total jobs increase in November

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – 7 of 14 metro areas in Illinois saw jobs increase in November, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Illinois Department of Employment Security.

Rockford saw a .4% decrease in unemployment from 5.6% to 5.2%, and an increase of 1,800 non-farm jobs from Nov. 2023 to Nov. 2024.

Rockford had the largest decrease in unemployment in Illinois.

Boone and Winnebago counties each saw a decrease in unemployment of .5% and .4% respectively. The only other county in the area that saw a decrease was Stephenson County with a decrease of .1%.

The areas with the largest increase in non-farm jobs include Champaign-Urbana, Carbondale-Marion, Rockford and Springfield, with the highest increase at 2,200 in Champaign-Urbana.

The areas with the biggest increase in unemployment rates are Davenport-Moline-Rock Island IA-IL, Chicago-Naperville-Arlington Heights Metropolitan Division and Danville.

Illinois saw a total of 36,200 more jobs and an unemployment rate increase of .7% overall.
