Rosalía Makes the Perfect Fashion Week Statement

New York Fashion Week is in full swing, which means both celebrities and the street-style set are showing up to the spring collections in style. The front rows are a place to see and be seen, and the bolder the looks, the more paparazzi and photographers come flocking. Someone who understands this unwritten rule? Rosalía, who stepped out in New York City today wearing a dress that came with a cheeky (and appropriate) message: “The People Want More.”

What statement was the Spanish singer trying to make, exactly? To us, the red and white knit number, reminiscent of a tennis dress, nodded to the excessiveness and maximalism of fashion week: how all the flamboyant designs and elaborate sets and A-list stars never quite seem to be enough—we still want more, more, more. Perhaps Rosalía was trying to remind us to be grateful for what we have. Or, maybe she just thought the dress was cool, and it’s not that deep. But you can’t deny that the slogan is stop-on—we as a society always do want more. The great Britney Spears didn’t sing a whole song about it for nothing.
