RPS robotics team finishes its run to a world championship
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – Rochester Public Schools’ robotics team, Inconceivable 2530, finished its run at the First Robotics Competition (FRC) World Championship, after being knocked out in the semifinals of its division.
Inconceivable 2530 consists of students from Mayo High School, John Marshall High School and Century High School. The group stated its among 600 teams that competed in this international event in Texas.
According to student program manager, Tanisha Lahiri, the teams were split into eight different divisions of about 75 teams. She said Inconceivable 2530 ranked tenth and lost in the semifinals of its division—a result that Lahiri stated was better than what the team expected.
“We were super happy just being able to go there. We were super excited, and even coming back from the tournament, we just felt a lot closer as a team just being able to make it that far for the first time in our team’s history.”
Lahiri shared the Inconceivable 2530 is in the top 5% of robotics teams from around the world. She stated the Rochester-based group was the second-highest placing team from Minnesota at the world championship.
”It was a big honor for us to be able to represent Rochester, Minnesota, when we were at the world championship,” Lahiri said, “We would really like to thank everybody who donated and sent out support. It was a really big shock to us to see how many news stations were talking about it and how many people reached out to give support. It made our whole team really happy to see that.”
Inconceivable 2530 will compete in the Minnesota State Championship against 35 other teams this Saturday.
