Ruben on the Road: Event and sports venue proud to be growing in Pampa

PAMPA, Texas (KFDA) – Ruben makes his way to Pampa and visits a local event and sports venue and learns what it means to them to be a part of the community.

“I got the idea after I bought the property and I had all this space. I knew that I wanted to build a shop at first and to put a lot of my stuff in,” said Gary Free, owner of Harvester Connection.

After building the shop, Free immediately decided to go ahead and build on the back with an outdoor kitchen, utilize all of his utilities and add a fire pit to enjoy the outdoors.

“And then I’ve always been a golfer and of course I got plenty of room for a putting green,” said Free.

Free says it was a no brainer for him. Everything just kind of evolved and came into what it is today.

He says he played basketball in high school and knew he wanted to include a basketball court.

“I was really getting into thinking about what I could do with it and how I could give back to Pampa, having been raised here and kind of give back to Pampa, a place for kids to go and enjoy, you know, what I love to do growing up,” said Free.

Free says it‘s so rewarding. At first, Free didn‘t really like the idea of entertaining and having people on his property. His kids also mentioned how he didn’t like people messing with his stuff.

“But once I started it, once I got, you know, involved in it, it’s really rewarding to see the kind of fun and no stress and the parents are involved with their kids, their grandparents are involved with their kids, the unity that they’re building, the memories they’re building. It’s really rewarding. I really enjoy it,” said Free.
